Get Paid to Learn a Trade: A New Program has Launched with Attractive Incentives

The Australian Government has launched the Key Apprenticeship Program (KAP). A new initiative designed to grow the workforce in priority sectors and support the next generation of skilled tradespeople. Delivered through two new streams, the KAP provides direct financial support to eligible apprentices and encourages completion rates in industries critical to Australia’s future.

The KAP contains two streams:

New Energy Apprenticeship (NEA) stream

This stream supports apprentices in the clean energy sector, covering roles involved in:

designing, developing, constructing and operating the infrastructure for generating, storing, transmitting, and distributing energy from renewable, zero or low emissions energy sources.
reducing or managing energy use.
installing and maintaining the technology that uses clean energy rather than fossil fuels.

Housing Construction Apprenticeship (HCA) stream

The HCA stream focuses on apprentices in residential construction, including building, repairing and renovating homes, apartments and aged care facilities.

With an increasing demand for housing, this stream is designed to encourage the growth of this workforce to help meet Australia’s increasing demand for housing.

Financial Support for Apprentices

Eligible Australian Apprentices may receive up to:

$10,000 for full-time apprenticeship
$5,000 for part-time apprenticeship

Payments are made at key milestones: 6, 12, 24 and 36 months, plus on completion.

Who is eligible?

Begins their apprenticeship on or after 1 July.
Be enrolled in a Certificate III, Diploma or Advanced Diploma listed on the Australian Apprenticeship Priority List.
Be employed or hosted by an organisation providing hands-on experience in either the clean energy or housing construction sectors.
