October is National Safe Work Month – a time when employers and workers across Australia come together to commit to creating safe and healthy workplaces.

This year’s theme, “Safety: Every Job, Every Day,” encourages all workplaces—regardless of occupation, industry, location, or size—to prioritise safety in their daily tasks.

The 4 Key Steps in Risk Management

The standard risk assessment process involves four key steps:

  1. Identify Hazards: The first step in risk management is to identify potential hazards that could cause harm to people. This harm can be physical, psychological, or both. Even if you already have a risk register, it’s crucial to review it regularly to ensure it remains up-to-date and relevant.
  2. Assess Risks: After identifying hazards, the next step is to assess the risks. This involves considering the potential consequences if someone is exposed to a hazard and the likelihood of such exposure occurring.
  3. Control Risks: Controlling risks is the most critical step in the risk management process. It involves taking practical actions to eliminate the risks or, if elimination is not possible, to minimise them as much as you can.
  4. Review Controls: Effective risk management requires regular review of control measures to ensure they are working as intended. Don’t wait for something to go wrong; proactive review is essential.

National Safe Work Month is for everyone!

Skill Hire’s Commitment to Safety: Every Job, Every Day

At Skill Hire, we offer a unique Group Training model, employing apprentices and placing them with host employers for hands-on industry experience.

This approach supports apprentices in earning a wage while working toward Nationally Recognised Qualifications and provides businesses with flexible, reliable workforce solutions. We ensure our students have all personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the role and WHS training and support paperwork is a key focus in our programs, this includes pastoral support, mentorship and advice.

All of our host employers complete a rigorous Host Safety Assessment (HSA) to ensure that they meet current safety standards before we even consider putting an apprentice with them for on-the-job training. Our strong network of host employers ensures apprentices are matched based on their preferences, skills, and location, with opportunities across commercial, residential, and industrial sectors.

Fostering a Safe, Supportive Culture at Skill Hire

Skill Hire strives to maintain the highest safety standards every day, during training and at the worksite. Dedicated to fostering skilled, confident tradespeople, we aim to build a sustainable future for Western Australia’s construction industry while delivering value to both apprentices and employers.

A Proven Safety Record: Our Partnership with Civmec

For example, Skillhire has approximately 50 apprentices we have placed with Host employer Civmec. We are pleased to report that we had incident and accident-free months, and so far, in 2025 there has been no LTI’s (loss time injury’s). This stellar safety record highlights the actions and commitment of the whole team towards an incident free, “never assume safety” culture at Civmec, and is a key reason why we are so proud to partner with them at Skill Hire. We also contribute to safety culture, through ongoing upskilling such as the Wellness Program Toolbox talk for our Apprentices, which we delivered last month at Civmec and was well received by the group.

Join Us in Prioritising Safety

At Skill Hire, safety isn’t just a priority—it’s a culture. We are dedicated to fostering skilled, confident tradespeople, aiming to build a sustainable future for Western Australia’s construction industry while delivering value to both apprentices and employers.

Are you looking to upskill your workforce or ensure safety standards at your worksite are up to scratch? Contact Skill Hire today to learn more about our apprenticeships and workforce solutions, and how we can help you implement a culture of safety in your workplace.

Skill Hire really helped me to see that I can accomplish something if I set my mind to it and I completed my course 2 months prior to the completion date. Cheers guys!

Skill Hire are helpful and professional. Nicola was attentive to all my needs. Their timesheets systems were a breeze and always update us with messages. Thanks Skill Hire

I just wanted to thank Skill Hire's EST Trainers. Nathan is the absolute best trainer I’ve ever had privilege to meet by a WIDE margin and I appreciate everything done for all of us. I’m ecstatic about the internship opportunity.

Not only did Skill Hire respond quickly to our urgent need, your team took the time to understand our organization and our needs. The people sent to help out were outstanding and their ability to rapidly adapt to our workplace eased our burden during what was a very challenging few months.

My son has thoroughly enjoyed the Construction Pathways course. He spent the last 18 months being home schooled and not socializing with anyone so to see him eager to get up and leave the house every day still blows my mind. Simon, thank you for your understanding and taking extra care with my son.

J

I wanted to say a big thank you to Skill Hire and the team, especially Wayne for such an amazing experience for our students. All of our students were thoroughly engaged with the course and learned many valuable skills.
