Skill Hire* was proud to support six of Western Australia’s finest apprentices at this year’s Master Builder Australia (MBA) WA Awards held on March 22nd.
Skill Hire apprentices Jacob O’Sullivan, Kaitlyn Brooks, Mason Kirk, Rory Fox, Rylie O’Hara and Ramazan Ibrahimi were recognised as the Most Outstanding Apprentices in their respective fields.
Ramazan, originally from Afghanistan, relocated to Perth with his family from Pakistan five years ago. He received the prestigious Most Outstanding Third-year Plumbing & Gas Fitting award. Ramazan’s interest in the trade was sparked by the abundant job prospects it offered and the opportunity to use his bilingual skills. “Plumbing is a good trade at the moment, and I can easily communicate with different clients since I speak three languages,” he said.
Skill Hire supported Ramazan into an apprenticeship after he finished high school. “I’m very happy with Skill Hire. They have supported me in any situation, mentoring me, helping with my language on the worksite, and every aspect of delivering my Apprenticeship. Receiving the award and seeing my whole family and friends so happy was truly special.”
Kaitlyn Brooks, a first-year apprentice at Skill Hire, shone brightly as the only female apprentice to receive an award for Most Outstanding First-year in Civil Construction. Working towards her Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations, Kaitlyn is building a successful career in large-scale infrastructure projects.
She credits the support she received from Skill Hire and her employer as crucial to her successful transition into a trade as a female apprentice, “If someone had told me a year ago that I would be driving a dump truck, I would have never believed it. But here I am, loving every moment of it. Having the support of Skill Hire and the incredible people around me has made all the difference in my journey as a female apprentice.”
Former Army Cadet Rylie O’Hara was also awarded the Most Outstanding Second-year Bricklaying Apprentice. Skill Hire guided and supported Rylie through performing administrative tasks for work and finding the right training provider. This and his love of learning allowed him to transition easily into a trade and excel with his host employer, JDF Bricklaying.
Another Skill Hire apprentice, Jacob O’Sullivan, won the Most Outstanding First-year Bricklaying Apprentice award. Additionally, Mason Kirk took home the Most Outstanding Second-year Plumbing & Gas Fitting Apprentice award, while Rory Fox won Most Outstanding First-Year Apprentice for Painting & Decorating.
